From time to time, many people find it necessary to request a copy of a certificate of Baptism, or a record of their Confirmation or Marriage in church. Most commonly, this will be in connection with a marriage, or a school application.
The General Data Protection Regulation restricts access to our Sacramental registers and the information they contain.
Consequently all requests for certificates must be made in writing by the applicant who must present evidence of their identity, or in the case of a child under 12 by a parent/guardian who must present evidence of their identity and the birth certificate of the child.
Consequently we are unable to accept requests for certificates by phone or email.
The application form for a certificate confirming the celebration of a sacrament can be downloaded here. Please complete it and then post it, with identification etc, to the address provided.
Please note that to obtain a copy of a civil certificate of marriage (or birth, adoption, or death certificate) you MUST go to the General Registrar's website: www.gro.gov.uk/
Letter of Freedom to marry
If you are living and marrying outside of the Parish of St Nicholas and need a Letter of Freedom from us (ie you have lived in this parish for more than six months since the age of 16) please download the request form here and post it to the address provided.
Please use this same form to obtain a Letter of Permission to Marry outside of your parish of residence. (NB You will only need to do this if you live in the parish of St Nicholas; are marrying outside the parish; and your marriage papers are prepared outside of the parish also.)
