Over recent years many Catholics have become less familiar with worship of the Eucharist outside of Mass. It is rare for most people to take part in the more formal celebrations such as Exposition and Benediction. It is also less common to find people making their own private visits to a church to pray before the Blessed Sacrament reserved in the Tabernacle.
Pope Francis has said: We need to cultivate an interior space which can give a Christian meaning to commitment and activity. Without prolonged moments of adoration, of prayerful encounter with the word, of sincere conversation with the Lord, our work easily becomes meaningless; we lose energy as a result of weariness and difficulties, and our fervour dies out. Eucharistic devotion is a tried and trusted way of helping us make time and space for the Lord and for ourselves: to help us deepen our life in Christ and in service of our neighbour. And yet, now, many people are not sure how to go about things, how to start. With the communal celebrations, help is usually given in a service booklet. Good resources are not so easy to lay hands on for our private prayer. And so one such (certainly a resource, and hopefully good!) has been produced for our parish. It offers not only prayers but suggestions as to how to structure a time of private prayer to help you get the most out of it.
