Serving as a school governor

Are you looking for a way to live out your faith and serve your local community at the same time?

Schools - Catholic and others - are regularly in need of assistance with their governance.

School Governors are the most important volunteer workforce in education. It’s a rewarding role that provides an excellent opportunity for personal development in a unique environment.

The manner of exercising governance has changed considerably over recent years, not least with the introduction of Academy groups. So those involved in the role are now sometimes termed Directors, sometime Governors, sometimes academy representatives. But in all cases what is especially needed for any of these roles is people with  knowledge and experience in business, finance, HR or with a legal background. But if you don’t have any of these specific skills, you may well have other qualities that would be beneficial to one of our schools. After all, common sense and willingness to learn go a long way!

Volunteers are able to develop many skills and experience, such as:
  • project management
  • recruitment and selection
  • budget control
  • data analysis
  • board-level strategic leadership
  • working as part of a senior team.
