ST NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Boldmere

Finding Marriage challenging? Ready for Help?

The promises made at marriage are great and challenging.

I, N.N., take you, N.N. to be my husband/wife,
for better for worse
for richer for poor
in sickness and in health
till death

Sometimes couples find their marriage becomes a greater burden than they know how to deal with. This may be no one's 'fault', just that things have got out of hand, out of control.

When it is out of control, the mess and confusion threatens something that has been (and quite probably remains) so full of promise, and is so central a part in your life and the life of your spouse, of children, wider family and friends.

When we recognise that things are out of our immediate control, as a couple, it is very helpful to seek help from 'outside'

Fr Allen is very happy to meet with couples or either spouse to listen to your situation and consider with you how you might move forward.

Sometimes just having this first talk helps. Often having access to some more expertise is helpful, or making a space for a longer, different, time of reflection. Fr Allen can help point you towards resources that you might like to make use of as you seek to recover happiness in your marriage.

Alternatively you might like to make contact directly with two Catholic agencies that have a lot of experience and can be a great help.
  • Retrouvaille Retrouvaille is a French word meaning to find each other again, to find oneself again, to find ones way again.
  • Marriage Care

For those whose marriages have ended in divorce, the National Board of Catholic Women has produced a booklet called A Guide to the Annulment Process which many have found helpful.
