Pope Francis has invited the whole Church to a process of active listening - listening to each other and, above all, listening to the Holy Spirit. And why? So we might learn - once more - how we are to live as Church, as missionary disciples, alive in Christ and sharing his Gospel.
The process begins in October 2021 in the local Churches of the world - in the dioceses and their parishes and other communities. And then gradually it continues until in October 2023 bishops and others meet in formal session in Rome to consider what has been heard and learnt.
A summary of the process can be found here.
And fuller, more technical, documents that establish the process can be found here and here.
In preparation for the beginning of the Synod, Pope Francis addressed a meeting in Rome, and returned to the subject the next day in his homily at Mass. His words help open up the spiritual richness of what the Synod process offers us.
The first stage of the process runs from October 2021 to February 2022. As opportunities for taking part in active listening in the parish and Archdiocese begin details will be added to this page.

- Archbishop Bernard's Pastoral Letter to accompany the beginning of the synodal journey.
- The synthesis of responses to the Archbishop's consultation of the Archdiocese can be read here. There will be a parish meeting during Eastertide, to enable us to share responses to this synthesis and further consider how we live and share faith together in the parish and more broadly.
