Private Prayer

The Church is generally open daily from 9am to 6pm for private prayer.

Parishioners who are confined to their homes because of incapacity or sickness are warmly invited to join their prayer with that of the parish at our regular times of worship. In particular they are invited to join with those who meet for on-line prayer: presently Morning Prayer (Monday to Saturday at 8.30pm) Zoom link here or the Rosary at 7pm each Monday. Zoom link here.

On-line Parish resources for private prayer include
  • Daily Posting to the Parish Blog - reflections based on the Sunday Liturgy, especially on its scripture readings
  • The Blog 'Prayer from the Catholic Tradition' contains a variety of prayers for use at any time, including seasonal prayers for use with the family or friends.
  • Christian Prayer is a resource that has been prepared for those in local Catholic schools who have the responsibility of leading others in times of prayer. Tailored to their need, some of the resources may be helpful to others also. This include written introductions to prayer exercises that help quieten us and centre us for prayer (praying with the body; using our breath to centre us; using a mantra); introductions to imaginative contemplation (using scripture and using other narratives); the Examen; and an introduction to Liturgical Prayer. A number of videos are available also to help introduce some of the methods; and also sets of Powerpoint slides ready to be used in a classroom or prayer group setting.
